UNITY DAY!
It’s UNITY DAY!
I am wearing orange today because when our son David (who was born with down syndrome, had a feeding tube, pacemaker, and was nonverbal) first started school I was concerned that because of his differences he would be the target of hurt, harm or humiliation.
The thought of him being bullied broke my heart.
It’s stories like David’s, who along with the millions of other students who are vulnerable by bullying, that have been the inspiration for @PACER_NBPC to change the culture in our society so that bullying will never again be accepted as a “simple childhood rite of passage.”
Unity Day, created by PACER Center, is the signature day of National Bullying Prevention Month.
The call to action is simple: wear and share the color orange to show that no child should ever have to experience bullying.
And, the coolest part of Unity Day, is that it celebrates “UNITING FOR KINDNESS, INCLUSION, and ACCEPTANCE” which are all positive, powerful actions that anyone can do, and definitely make David smile with joy (in fact in this picture he threw his arms up in the air!) and truly make our world a better place.
