Students with Abilities to Coordinate to Help Each other (S.A.C.H.E.)

We love Unity Day, a designated day in October to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion by wearing and sharing orange. One of our favorite aspects comes during post-event when we receive pictures from the day, stories about how it was celebrated, and learn about the impact for those who celebrated.

The following was shared by Tammy from Los Medanos College of California, who coordinates S.A.C.H.E. Club, run by and for students to enrich the LMC community by bringing awareness to the vast numbers of students with disabilities.

Tammy shared, "Thank you very much for sending us additional posters even though we couldn't afford them! They were absolutely wonderful and made our humble event feel truly official. My club is comprised of college and high school students with disabilities of diverse ages and abilities. We have all experienced bullying throughout our lives, including college. So we felt that Unity Day was an important way to encourage our campus community to say no to bullying. I made orange ribbons to pass out and, inspired by one of your graphics from last year (I'm not very creative), created a small handout explaining what Unity Day is and how students could show their support. We proudly wore our orange shirts and decorated our table in an equally bright orange hue. You can see the big smiles on our members' faces, our table, and ribbons in our photo album. Thank you very much for creating such an inspiring campaign!"

Cheers to Tammy and all the members of S.A.C.H.E. for changing their world to prevent bullying in the world. We are so proud of all of you.
